Losing streak or drawdown? How to read a betting record

Three losses in a row describe a losing streak. Being ₱170 below an earlier peak describes drawdown. You can still be in a drawdown after a winning bet, so the two numbers answer different questions.
A streak counts consecutive losses
A losing streak is an uninterrupted run of losing bets under a stated recording rule. Decide how a refund or partially settled bet is counted. A list that quietly removes losing tickets cannot describe the streak accurately.
Drawdown measures how far the recorded balance has fallen from an earlier high. For a settled-bet balance curve, deposits, withdrawals and open bets need separate treatment. Otherwise a deposit can look like a recovery in betting performance.
A win does not always end the drawdown
Fictional settled-bet balance, no deposits or withdrawals
After the low point, the record has two wins worth ₱80 and ₱100. The losing streak ended, but the balance did not regain ₱1,100. A later ₱50 loss leaves the end balance at ₱930.
The end-of-period drawdown is 170 ÷ 1,100 = 15.45%. Maximum drawdown was larger: 300 ÷ 1,100 = 27.27%. State which measure you report and show the period.
Why am I losing bets? Start with an audit
A short run can reflect randomness, bad prices, poor probability estimates, unsuitable stakes or several of these together. Calling every loss “variance” avoids the question rather than answering it.
Check the record before changing the stake
Separate the outcome from the information available before the match. Rebuilding your reasoning after seeing the score cannot test the original decision. Preserve timestamps and price changes where available.
The next bet does not owe you a recovery
Increasing the stake to recover ₱300 exposes more money without changing the underlying selection. A limit on money or time is still relevant after a loss. Pausing gives room to examine the record without making recovery an immediate target.
Keep essential spending outside the betting budget. Neither a streak analysis nor a drawdown curve establishes future profit. The chart is a way to describe exposure and performance, not permission to keep betting through every decline.
Questions readers ask
What is a losing streak?
A consecutive run of losing bets, counted under a stated rule. A win can end the run even if the overall balance remains below its peak.
Is every losing streak just bad luck?
No. Randomness is one possibility, but prices, estimates, stakes and missing data also need review.
What is maximum drawdown?
The largest fall from a prior peak within the recorded period. In the example it is ₱300 from ₱1,100, or 27.27%.
Does a win restore the bankroll?
Only if its net profit is large enough. In the example, two wins after the low still leave the balance below the earlier peak.
